Product Details
When the Pilgrims arrived on Cape Cape they discovered the bayberry scrub which they so named after Cape Cod Bay, The Pilgrims relied on tallow candles for lighting, which were smokey, and smelly. By laboriously boiling the bayberries they produced a fragrant wax with which to make candles for special holidays like Christmas and New Years. Burning the candles to the nub was supposed to bring good luck in the coming year, and thus became a unique Cape Cod tradition. A white powder called bloom forms naturally on the surface of bayberry candles as they age. Our boxed set of two genuine Bayberry Candles makes a wonderful year round hostess gift.
